10 November 2024
Planning your Lakshadweep trip? Discover the ideal months to visit for perfect weather, calm seas, and the best underwater visibility.
When to Visit Lakshadweep
Lakshadweep is accessible only during a narrow window each year, making timing crucial for your trip. The archipelago sits in the Arabian Sea and is governed by two distinct monsoon seasons.
October to May: The Prime Season
This is the best time to visit Lakshadweep. The seas are calm, visibility underwater exceeds 30 metres, and the weather is sunny and pleasant. Water temperatures hover around 27–29°C — perfect for snorkelling and diving.
- October–December: Post-monsoon freshness. Lush vegetation, calm waters, excellent for photography.
- January–February: Peak season. Best weather, highest tourist footfall. Book well in advance.
- March–May: Warm and clear. Slightly fewer tourists. Good deals available.
June to September: Monsoon
The southwest monsoon arrives in June and batters Lakshadweep until September. Most tourist facilities close. The islands are accessible only to residents during this period. Attempting to visit is dangerous and generally not permitted.
Pro Tips
Entry to Lakshadweep requires a permit. Indian nationals need a domestic permit obtainable through your tour operator. Foreign nationals require a special permit. Always book a licensed operator who handles permit formalities.
Water sports and SCUBA diving are best during January–April when visibility is at its peak and currents are gentle.
